55-57 Chevrolet Power Rack & Pinion Converstion Kit

Unisteer is pleased to have a bolt in Power or Manual Rack & Pinion Kit for 1955-57 Chevy Cars. This kit consists of a uniquely customized Saginaw Power Rack & Pinion. This custom built rack is narrow enough to match the original steering. Geometrically this rack matches the stock steering so there is very little bump steer! The Rack and Pinion is a remanufactured unit of the highest quality that comes with a lifetime warranty. The basic kit consists of the Rack & Pinion unit, Outer Tie Rod Ends, Brackets, Mounting Hardware, and new Steering Arms. Installation is as easy as possible. The Rack & Pinion is mounted to our bracket using the provided hardware and the unit mounts in the stock holes from the factory steering system. The driver side bracket mounts to the same three bolt pattern as the factory steering box and the passenger side bracket mounts to the two bolt pattern for the idler-arm. These brackets then hold the rack and pinion in the same plane as center link from the stock steering. For clearance issues, if your Chevy has clearance for the factory center link then you should have clearance for Unisteer's Tri-5 rack. The Rack & Pinion rests in the same place as that factory center drag link with a slightly bigger diameter. As we provide new steering arms that bolt in, this will work with drop spindles. Research also shows that if you have Mike Mcgaughty's drop spindles move the steering arms in an inch on each side making it narrower than factory, this is an easy fix though and only requires the user to cut an inch of each of thread of the tie rods. The standard kit includes the Rack & Pinion, Brackets, Outer Tie Rod Ends, Steering Arms and Line Fittings(6 AN Banjo). That is what the basic rack & pinion kit consists of. The Rack & Pinion also comes powder coated black for $799.00. These kits are also available in Manual Steering Units for the racing crowd: these consist of the same Rack and Pinion, only with the hydraulics stripped out and lines plugged, the manual unit is not recommended for street use.
